Unit History
The 9th Infantry Division, known as the “Old Reliables,” is a historic U.S. Army unit with distinguished service in World War II, Vietnam, and the Cold War.
Its Shoulder Sleeve Insignia (SSI) features a red circle with a white center and blue nine-petal design, symbolizing unity and strength. The division fought bravely in North Africa, Normandy, and the Battle of the Bulge, and later played a major role in riverine and mobile warfare during Vietnam.
The 9th Infantry Division is remembered for its versatility, courage, and reliability, living up to its proud nickname — “Old Reliables.”
