Unit History
The 65th Cavalry Division was a U.S. Army Organized Reserve unit established in the 1920s during the interwar period. Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the division was part of the Army’s plan to maintain a ready cavalry force composed primarily of citizen-soldiers.
Its SSI (Shoulder Sleeve Insignia) reflected the traditions of mobility, reconnaissance, and striking power that defined the cavalry branch. Though the division never saw combat, it played an important role in training and preparedness between the world wars. The 65th Cavalry Division was disbanded during World War II as the Army transitioned from horse cavalry to mechanized armored forces.
