Unit History

50th Infantry Division represents one of the U.S. Army’s World War II “Phantom Divisions,” created as part of Operation Fortitude—the Allied deception campaign designed to mislead Axis forces about invasion plans. Although it never existed as an active combat unit, the 50th Infantry Division (Phantom) symbolizes strategic deception, ingenuity, and the intelligence efforts that contributed to Allied victory in Europe.
