Unit History

The 47th Infantry Division, known as the “Viking Division,” was organized in 1946 as part of the U.S. Army National Guard. It was primarily made up of units from Minnesota and North Dakota. The division trained for national defense during the Cold War and participated in numerous state and federal missions. In 1991, it was reorganized and redesignated as the 34th Infantry Division, continuing the proud legacy of service and readiness under a new name.
