Unit History

The 44th Infantry Division, nicknamed the “Blue Devil Division,” was organized in 1924 as part of the New Jersey and New York Army National Guard. Activated for World War II, it fought in France and Germany, playing a vital role in the Allied advance across Europe. After the war, it was reactivated during the early Cold War period for homeland defense and training missions. The division was inactivated in 1954, with its lineage continued through various National Guard units in New Jersey.
