Unit History
The 26th Armored Division was a phantom (fictional) unit created during World War II as part of the Allied deception operations designed to mislead Axis intelligence about actual troop locations and strengths.
While no active combat unit existed under this name, the 26th Armored Division was used in fake radio traffic, dummy unit patches, and strategic misinformation to suggest additional armored strength in Europe.
Its shoulder sleeve insignia (SSI) is often depicted in reference materials as a stylized armored triangle design, consistent with real U.S. armored divisions of the era, but it was never officially authorized or worn by actual troops.
