Unit History

The 25th Armored Division was a phantom (fictional) U.S. Army unit created during World War II as part of Allied deception efforts (Operation Fortitude and related plans). These phantom divisions were used to mislead the Axis powers about the number and placement of Allied forces.

The shoulder sleeve insignia (SSI) for the 25th Armored Division was never officially authorized, but in historical records and reenactments, it’s typically represented by a triangular armored patch similar to genuine U.S. armored divisions — featuring the standard red, yellow, and blue background (symbolizing artillery, cavalry, and infantry) with a fictional unit number “25” added within the design.
