Unit History

The 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry, assigned to the 101st Airborne Division, served with distinction during the Vietnam War. Conducting air assault, reconnaissance, and search-and-destroy operations, the battalion operated in challenging terrain and under intense combat conditions throughout the Central Highlands. Its Soldiers demonstrated exceptional courage, skill, and combat effectiveness, earning recognition as Vietnam combat veterans. The battalion’s service reinforced the proud traditions of the 502nd Infantry Regiment and the 101st Airborne Division, symbolized by its Shoulder Sleeve Insignia (SSI).
