Unit History
The 4th Battalion, 47th Infantry (Riverine) was part of the 9th Infantry Division and specialized in riverine and swamp operations during the Vietnam War. Operating in the Mekong Delta and other waterways, the battalion conducted patrols, interdiction missions, and amphibious assaults using specialized boats and waterborne tactics to counter Viet Cong and North Vietnamese forces.
Soldiers assigned to this battalion earned recognition as Vietnam Combat Infantry Veterans, demonstrating skill, courage, and resilience in challenging riverine environments. Their service contributed significantly to counterinsurgency efforts and the overall operational effectiveness of the 9th Infantry Division in Vietnam.
