Unit History
The 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, part of the 1st Cavalry Division, is famously nicknamed the “Jumping Mustangs.” During the Vietnam War, the battalion conducted air assault operations, reconnaissance, and mechanized infantry missions, often deploying via helicopter into enemy-controlled areas.
The unit played a key role in major combat operations, providing rapid response, securing strategic objectives, and supporting larger division maneuvers.
