Unit History

The Specialist 4 (SPC4) rank was part of the Army’s specialist system used from the late 1950s through the 1980s. Soldiers at this level were trained technical experts who supported missions with specialized skills in fields such as communications, logistics, engineering, and administration. Though eventually replaced by the modern Specialist (E-4) rank, SPC4 remains a well-recognized symbol of Cold War–era and Vietnam-era Army service.
