Unit History

The 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment, known as the “Five-Oh-Deuce,” was formed in World War II as part of the elite 101st Airborne Division. Trained for airborne assault, the regiment parachuted into Normandy on D-Day, fought through Holland during Operation Market Garden, and held the line in the brutal Battle of the Bulge. The 502nd later served in Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan, earning a reputation for toughness, mobility, and precision in airborne and air assault operations. Celebrated for courage and mission excellence, the 502nd PIR remains one of the most storied units in U.S. Army airborne history.
