Unit History
The 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR) of the U.S. Army, proudly serving under the 101st Airborne Division, was formed during World War II as one of America’s pioneering airborne units. The regiment parachuted into Normandy on D-Day, led bold assaults during Operation Market Garden, and fought with extraordinary resilience in the Battle of the Bulge. Across later conflicts—including Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan—the 502nd PIR continued its legacy of airborne and air assault excellence. Known for its discipline, courage, and combat effectiveness, the “Five-Oh-Deuce” remains a symbol of the U.S. Army’s elite fighting tradition.
