Unit History

The 3rd Armored Division, part of VII Corps, played a decisive role during Operation Desert Storm (1991) in the liberation of Kuwait. As a heavy armored division, it executed rapid, mechanized assaults across the Kuwaiti and Iraqi deserts, engaging and defeating entrenched Iraqi forces in some of the largest tank battles since World War II.

Soldiers of the 3rd Armored Division demonstrated exceptional coordination, mobility, and firepower, contributing to the swift and overwhelming success of coalition forces. Their service earned recognition as Desert Storm Veterans, and the division’s performance solidified its reputation as one of the U.S. Army’s premier armored combat formations.
