Unit History
The 2nd Infantry Regiment, one of the U.S. Army’s oldest active infantry units, carried its historic motto “Do Not Touch Me” into modern combat during the Iraq War. Deployed across key locations such as Baghdad, Mosul, and Diyala Province, the regiment conducted security operations, counterinsurgency missions, and partnered with Iraqi forces to stabilize the region. Its soldiers faced intense urban combat and complex operational environments, demonstrating the same discipline, resilience, and combat effectiveness that have defined the regiment since the early 1800s.
