Unit History

The 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, assigned to the 101st Airborne Division, participated in Operation Hawthorne during the Vietnam War, conducting air assault, search-and-destroy, and reconnaissance operations against enemy forces in the Central Highlands. The battalion’s Soldiers, often operating in difficult terrain under intense combat conditions, played a key role in disrupting enemy movements and securing U.S. and allied positions. Renowned for courage, skill, and combat effectiveness, 2-502 Infantry exemplified the fighting spirit of the 101st Airborne Division and the Infantry Branch during Vietnam.
