Unit History

The 25th Infantry Regiment was originally formed in 1866 as one of the U.S. Army’s historic African American regiments known as the Buffalo Soldiers. The unit served on the western frontier, taking part in campaigns that helped secure early American outposts. Throughout the 20th century, the regiment saw action in major conflicts including the Spanish–American War, Philippine–American War, and World War II, where its soldiers earned distinction for bravery and resilience. The motto “Onward” reflects the regiment’s long tradition of service, discipline, and sacrifice.
