Unit History
The 25th Infantry Regiment was formed in 1869 as one of the U.S. Army’s segregated African American units known as the Buffalo Soldiers. The regiment served on the Western frontier, conducting patrols, protecting settlements, and supporting campaigns during the Indian Wars. In the early 1900s, the unit deployed to Cuba during the Spanish-American War and later took part in operations in the Philippines. Elements of the regiment also performed critical security duties along the U.S.–Mexico border. Over its history, the 25th Infantry Regiment earned a reputation for discipline, endurance, and dependable service, contributing significantly to early U.S. Army operations before its eventual inactivation.
