Unit History
The 10th Cavalry Regiment, famously known as the Buffalo Soldiers, was established in 1866 as one of the U.S. Army’s first African American cavalry units. The regiment served on the Western frontier, protecting settlers, building infrastructure, and engaging in campaigns during the Indian Wars. Over time, the 10th Cavalry distinguished itself in conflicts including the Spanish–American War, Philippine–American War, and later operations, earning a reputation for bravery, discipline, and enduring legacy.
