SSI - 42nd Infantry Division
The 42nd Infantry Division, known as the "Rainbow Division," is a storied unit of the U.S. Army National Guard. Its shoulder sleeve insignia (SSI) features a rainbow, symbolizing the division’s original composition of units from across the United States.
Formed in 1917 for World War I, it fought in major campaigns in France. The division also served with distinction in World War II, including the liberation of Dachau concentration camp. Today, the 42nd remains an active division in the Army National Guard, continuing its legacy of national service.
