Specialist 5th Class (SP5) was a rank in the U.S. Army, used primarily from the 1950s to the 1980s. It was above the rank of Specialist 4th Class (SP4) and below Sergeant. SP5 was typically held by soldiers with technical expertise or in specialized roles. This rank was often awarded to soldiers who demonstrated advanced knowledge or skill but did not yet hold a non-commissioned officer (NCO) position.
