The history of the Army Avenger Air Defense system firing missiles began with its development in the early 1980s and initial test firings in 1984, where it successfully hit targets while moving and stationary using Stinger missiles. The first production contract was awarded in 1987, and the system was first delivered to the U.S. Army in 1988. Since then, it has been used in numerous exercises, including live-fire demonstrations in the Philippines and deployment to Africa, and has proven its capability to fire Stingers against various targets like drones and helicopters.
