UNIT HISTORY
The 25th Infantry Regiment was one of the original "Buffalo Soldier" units, consisting of African American soldiers who served from 1866 to 1957. While the regiment has ties to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, its history is more strongly associated with the Texas frontier, where it was first organized, and with service in the American Indian Wars, the Spanish–American War, the Philippine–American War, and World War II. The Buffalo Soldiers were critical to building infrastructure, maintaining law and order, and fighting in the American West, and some of the other Buffalo Soldier regiments, like the 10th Cavalry, were specifically involved in the construction of Fort Sill.
