UNIT HISTORY
The 10th Cavalry Regiment was a "Buffalo Soldier" unit that served at Fort Concho, Texas, from 1875 to 1882, using the fort as their regimental headquarters. While stationed at Fort Concho, they performed duties such as guarding mail and stagecoach routes, escorting cattle drives, laying telegraph lines, and fighting in the Victorio Campaign against the Mescalero Apache. Fort Concho's significance for the regiment declined after they transferred their headquarters west to Fort Davis in 1882.
