The 5th Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment (5-17 CAV) was a U.S. Army air and ground cavalry unit stationed in South Korea from 1988 to 1996. Initially based at Camp Garry Owen, the squadron's mission was to provide reconnaissance and security along the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), supporting the 3rd Brigade Combat Team of the 2nd Infantry Division. In 1992, the ground cavalry elements relocated to Camp Pelham, which was later renamed Camp Garry Owen, while the air cavalry components moved to Camp Stanton. The unit remained active until it was reflagged as the 4th Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment on April 5, 1996.
