The 179th Infantry Regiment, known as the "Tomahawks" and part of the 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, deployed to Afghanistan in 2011 during Operation Enduring Freedom under Transition I, supporting Afghan forces during a key phase of the war.
Awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB) and the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the unit also has prior service in Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), continuing its legacy of valor and dedication in global combat operations.
