The 179th Infantry Regiment, proudly known as the "Tomahawks" and part of the 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, deployed to Afghanistan in 2011 during the Consolidation III phase of Operation Enduring Freedom. Their mission supported counterinsurgency and Afghan security force development.
The regiment earned the Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB) and the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, adding to their distinguished record that includes service in Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF).
