A US Army Chief Warrant Officer 5 (CW5) is the highest rank in the warrant officer corps. CW5s are master-level technical experts and leaders, often responsible for developing and implementing policies and strategies in their field. They are officially commissioned and have a "W" classification, distinct from enlisted personnel (E) and commissioned officers (O). A CW5 is appointed by the Secretary of the Army.
