A U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer 2 (CW2) is a warrant officer rank, meaning they are a specialist with expertise in their chosen field, appointed by the Secretary of the Army. CW2s are appointed to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer after serving as a Warrant Officer (WO1) and are then commissioned by the President of the United States. They are not commissioned officers, but rather hold a hybrid rank, distinct from both enlisted and commissioned officers
