The 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, also known as "Six-Triple Eight," was a predominantly Black, multi-ethnic unit of 855 women in the U.S. Army during World War II. Their primary mission was to clear a backlog of mail in the European Theater of Operations, a task they worked on in challenging conditions like cold, dirty, and rat-infested hangars. The unit was active from 1945 to 1946 and had the motto "No Mail, Low Morale". They were stationed in Birmingham, England, Rouen, and Paris, France.
