The term "Buffalo Soldiers" was a nickname given by Native American tribes to African American soldiers in the United States Army who served primarily on the Western frontier after the Civil War. These soldiers were part of the 9th and 10th Cavalry and the 24th and 25th Infantry Regiments, formed in 1866.
