Troop D, 17th Cavalry was a U.S. Army reconnaissance unit, most active during the Vietnam War, that performed ground and air missions. Initially, it served as the ground reconnaissance element for the 199th Infantry Brigade before transitioning to an air cavalry troop and later serving as a long-range reconnaissance unit for the 11th Aviation Group. The "Long Range Patrol" in the name refers to its specialized reconnaissance missions deep in enemy territory.
