The 83rd Infantry Division (nicknamed the "Thunderbolt Division") served in both World War I and World War II, and was later reactivated in 2014. In WWII, it fought in key battles like the Battle of the Bulge and the advance to the Rhine, landing on Omaha Beach in 1944. The division was originally known as the "Ohio Division" before being renamed "Thunderbolt" during WWII due to its expanded personnel from across the country.
