The 38th Infantry Division, nicknamed the "Cyclone" Division, is a United States Army National Guard unit with a long history originating in 1917 from Indiana, Kentucky, and West Virginia. After a tornado damaged its training camp at Camp Shelby, Mississippi, the division received its nickname. Though its personnel were used as replacements in other units during World War I, the division was reorganized in 1923. It later saw significant combat in World War II, deploying to the Pacific Theater and fighting in the New Guinea, Leyte, and Luzon campaigns.
