The 34th Infantry Division, nicknamed the "Red Bull," is a prominent US Army National Guard division with a long history, beginning with its formation in 1917 from state National Guard units in the Midwest. The division earned its nickname from its fierce fighting in North Africa and Italy during World War II, where it amassed more front-line combat days than any other American division. The Red Bull legacy was revived when the Minnesota-based 47th Infantry Division was redesignated as the 34th in 1991, and its units have since deployed to various global hotspots, including the Middle East and Afghanistan.
