The 33rd Infantry Division, known as the "Prairie Division," was a National Guard division composed of Illinois men, serving in both World War I and World War II, and later as the 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team. In WWI, the division gained recognition for its actions in France, including the Battle of Hamel and the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. In WWII, it fought in the Pacific, notably liberating the Philippines, including the capture of the summer capital Baguio.
