The U.S. Army's 32nd Infantry Division, or "Red Arrow Division," has a rich history, formed in 1917 from Wisconsin and Michigan National Guard units, earning its name for "piercing every enemy line" in World War I. It deployed to the Pacific in World War II, suffering heavy casualties in the Buna campaign but becoming the first U.S. division to fight an offensive action in the war. The division holds the record for the most combat days for any U.S. Army division in WWII and continued to serve in the National Guard, later seeing activation for the Berlin Crisis, Operation Desert Shield/Storm, and deployments to Iraq.
