The 31st Infantry Division, also known as the "Dixie Division," was a National Guard division with units from Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, and Louisiana, serving through World War I, World War II, and the Korean War. After training in the United States, the Division deployed to the Pacific Theater in WWII, fighting in campaigns in New Guinea and the Philippines. Following the war, the Division was demobilized and later reactivated, with elements called up for stateside service during the Korean War and during the Civil Rights era. The 31st Division was officially inactivated in 1968, with its units absorbed into the 30th Armored Division.
