The 30th Infantry Division, known as "Old Hickory," was a highly distinguished US Army unit that served with great distinction in World War I and World War II. Named for President Andrew Jackson, the division, composed primarily of National Guard troops from North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee, earned its reputation by breaching the Hindenburg Line in WWI and spearheading operations like the breakthrough at Saint-Lô and the Ardennes counteroffensive in WWII. Though the division was deactivated after WWII, its lineage continues today with the North Carolina Army National Guard's 30th Armored Brigade Combat Team, which carries the "Old Hickory" legacy.
