Fort McCoy is a United States Army Reserve installation located between Sparta and Tomah, Wisconsin. It spans 60,000 acres and serves as a training center for military personnel, conducting operations for approximately 100,000 military members each year. The installation was named after Major General Robert B. McCoy, who envisioned the area for military training and played a significant role in its development. Fort McCoy has been in use since 1909 and has undergone various transformations over the years, including its designation as a training ground during World War I and its current status as a total force training center.
