The U.S. Army's 8th Infantry Division, nicknamed the "Golden Arrow" or "Pathfinder" Division, served in World War I, World War II, and Desert Storm, seeing extensive combat in the European Theater during World War II. The division landed in Normandy in July 1944, fighting through France to capture Rennes and Brest, and then pushed into Germany through the Hürtgen Forest and into the Rhineland. During its service, the 8th Infantry Division was recognized as a liberating unit for its role in discovering and assisting the Wöbbelin concentration camp subcamp.
