The 6th Infantry Division, also known as the "Red Star" Division, served in World War I, World War II, and during the Cold War, with a particularly significant history of heavy combat in the Pacific Theater of WWII, setting a record for consecutive days in combat. The division saw action in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive in WWI, then moved to New Guinea and the Philippines in WWII, fighting the bloody Battle of Luzon and pursuing General Yamashita's forces. The division was activated in 1917, served until 1946, and then served in the Korean and Vietnam wars before a final reactivation in 1986 as a light infantry division.
