The 49th Armored Division, nicknamed the "Lone Star," was a division of the Texas Army National Guard active from 1947 to 2004. Its history includes being called to active duty in 1961 during the Berlin Crisis, being inactivated in 1968, and then reactivated in 1973 as the sole remaining armored division in the US Army National Guard. It was eventually re-flagged as the 36th Infantry Division in 2004.
