The "Red Bull" 34th Infantry Division is a storied National Guard unit with a history dating back to World War I, earning its nickname and the distinction of being the first U.S. division deployed to Europe in World War II. The division fought extensively in North Africa and Italy, accumulating more front-line combat days than any other U.S. division in World War II. Post-war, the 34th was reorganized and redesignated, most recently taking up its legacy in 1991, and has since been deployed for homeland security and peacekeeping missions in conflicts such as Afghanistan and Iraq.
