The 29th Infantry Division's \"Blue and Gray\" history reflects its 1917 formation from both Union and Confederate Civil War units, symbolizing national reunification. The division famously served in World War I and World War II, with its 116th Regiment landing in the first wave at Omaha Beach on D-Day, June 6, 1944. Its historic Blue and Gray patch, designed by Major James Ulio, is the Army's oldest registered divisional patch and has been a symbol of valor and unity for generations of soldiers.
