The 508th Infantry Regiment, initially activated as the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR) in 1942, was a distinguished U.S. Army airborne unit famous for its service in World War II, particularly during D-Day in Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge, adopting the "Red Devil" emblem and "Diablo!" battle cry. After extensive service in Europe, the regiment was inactivated in 1946, then redesignated and reactivated in various configurations, most recently as the 508th Infantry Regiment in 2005.
