The 48th Field Artillery Battalion's history includes service in World War I and the Korean War, where it was assigned to the 7th Infantry Division, using 105mm artillery. After the Korean War, the unit underwent several redesignations and inactivations, eventually becoming the 1st Battalion, 79th Field Artillery. This later unit was reactivated in 1975 at Fort Ord, California, before its transfer to the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) for basic combat training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, in 1995.
