The 45th Fires Brigade, part of the Oklahoma Army National Guard (OKARNG), has roots in the 1920s as the Oklahoma Field Artillery. Its lineage is tied to the larger 45th Infantry Division, known as the "Thunderbirds," which earned a distinguished combat record during World War II in Italy and France and later in the Korean War. After the division's inactivation in 1968, units were activated to carry on its legacy, and the modern 45th Fires Brigade continues this tradition of service.
