The 45th Fires Brigade, also known as the "Red Thunder" or the 45th Field Artillery Brigade, is a unit of the Oklahoma Army National Guard with a history tracing back to the organization of the first artillery batteries in Oklahoma after World War I. The brigade's motto is "Pride, Valor, Excellence", and its distinctive unit insignia (DUI), also known as a unit crest, was first approved in 1972. The unit was formed from elements of the disbanded 45th Infantry Division, a unit that saw extensive combat in World War II and Korea, a legacy it continues to carry. The current designation as a Fires Brigade was implemented in 2008, reflecting its updated role in modern warfare.
