The 2nd Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment (2-505th PIR), known as the "PANTHERS," is a unit within the 82nd Airborne Division with a lineage dating back to July 1942. They are historically significant for participating in major WWII campaigns, including the invasion of Sicily and the Battle of the Bulge, and for their role as a rapid deployment force in later conflicts like the Gulf War and the Global Response Force missions in Afghanistan. Their mission is to conduct forcible entry parachute assaults to secure objectives, supporting both the 82nd Airborne Division and U.S. national interests.
